It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of artist and friend, Pam Glover. Our association with her extended over 20 years and throughout we enjoyed her enthusiastic spirit and genuine nature. Her contribution to the advancement of art in the Bay Area through her painting and mentorship is immeasurable. We feel privileged to have represented her through these many years and will continue to carry her paintings in our gallery. Pam was born in Shanghai, China and was exposed early on to the Far Eastern influences in the Arts. Her art education included China - where she studied for three years with Olga Popoff, the Polytechnic of Art in Sydney, Australia, the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, California, and four years with Lundy Siegreist. While strongly influenced by the Impressionist use of rich layers of oil in brilliant tones, her palette and bold brushwork were more reminiscent of her famous precursors, the Oakland Society of Six. All of her paintings were done on location so that she could capture the excitement of sun and shadows falling across the brilliant California landscape. A founding member of the "Outsiders" group of plein air painters, Pam was also a member of the Marin Society of Arts, the Oakland Art Association, the San Francisco Artist Co-operative, and the East Bay Art Association. While in Sydney, Pam worked as a fashion artist at the Hamilton Art Studios. She also taught arts and crafts at Kingsley High School in England, and later painting with Adult Education in Orinda, California. Pam was a winner of prestigious awards at the California State Fair in Sacramento, the Lodi Fair, the Alameda County Fair and the Marin Art Association Annual in Ross, California. She exhibited widely and her work may be found in many corporate and private collections. |
